The religious guilds pass through the streets with the procession

With a markedly religious character, it is also a great social and cultural event that the locals experience with emotion and devotion. The processions, made up of brotherhoods that go through the main streets of the city carrying religious images, are the best example of the Andalusian spirit. The processions are held on Palm Sunday and Good Friday. Holy Week is celebrated on different dates each year, always after the first full moon of the spring equinox.

In preparation for the acts and activities that are organised during Holy Week 2022 in Torremolinos, we have Easter events such as the Via Crucis that leaves from the parish church ‘Cristo Resucitado’, with the image of the Lord ‘Santísimo Cristo de la Sentencia’ in procession through the streets of the ‘El Calvario’ neighbourhood, on the 2nd of April after mass at 19.30 pm.

‘Holy Week in Torremolinos is one of the most moving religious traditions of this town, as well as being truly spectacular for our visitors. The Good Friday processions are organised by the Brotherhoods of ‘Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno and María Santísima de los Dolores’, Jesus at his entry at Jerusalem and ‘Santa María Reina de la Paz’.

On the morning of Good Friday there is a solemn Via Crucis through the streets of La Carihuela (Via Crucis del Santísimo Cristo de los Milagros), which starts from the parish church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, in this former fishermen’s quarter.

Easter in Torremolinos is one of the religious traditions touching the heart of all the people in this town, and is also really spectacular for our visitors. Processions on Good Friday are organised by the Brotherhood Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno y María Santísima de los Dolores y Jesús a su entrada en Jerusalén y Santa María Reina de la Paz.

On the morning of Good Friday, a solemn Via Crucis takes place along La Carihuela’s streets (Vía Crucis del Santísimo Cristo de los Milagros), departing from Nuestra Señora del Carmen parish church in this former fisherman’s area.

Holy Week in Torremolinos is one of the religious traditions that has deeply embedded in the town and that at the same time has great spectacle for visitors. There are two brotherhoods that take part in this peculiar procession: that of Our Father Jesus Nazareno and María Santísima de los Dolores, and the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of the Sentence and Our Lady of Calvary in their Sorrowful Mysteries.
